Pecos Baldy (12530 ft)

A walk in the woods

Close enough to hike it in one day, we decided for the convenience of camping the night before at Jack's Creek campground.

Next morning, we went the 7.5 miles to Pecos Baldy. The path is well worn and a couple of signs are pointing the way. Nevertheless one should be aware of major waypoints, since the peak is on none of the signs at the trail.

Our trail crossed to large meadows, but was otherwise in the trees. The only exception is the last 30min up to the peak.

There's a vast amount of squirrels and chipmunks in the trees, but we were too late in the day to spot larger animals. Therefore, it was a nice surprise to get a glimpse at an unafraid Bighorn Sheep, grasing at the lake beneath Pecos Baldy.

The total triptime was about nine hours, 5h to the peak.
